The Olympics and London Theatre
The most exciting city in the world is hosting the most exciting sporting event, and London is going all out to make it the most exciting Olympics ever. Never was there a city keener to involve its population with every aspect of making this a spectacular and memorable event of all time.
Those people concerned with West End theatre and the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) were a bit apprehensive on what the effect the Olympics was going to have on theatrical productions and sales of tickets for West End shows for the duration of the Olympics, as there really was no previous scale on which to base it. They forgot however that London theatre attracts people annually, from all over the world to its stage doors, to see the wonderful productions that only London can produce, both with drama and certainly with the size and costuming of the snappy musicals.
Hotels and Shows
Many months beforehand, visitors book their hotels and decide which London show tickets they want to be sure of getting. This year in particular, the 12,000 expected visitors are lucky enough to have booked tickets for London shows, and those who were fortunate enough to be able to get tickets, for the Olympic events that they wanted to see as well.
Transport
Even though there is a likely congestion on the transport for Londoners and visitors during the Olympic events, the theatres are not located at the bottleneck hotspots, so leaving for the theatre a little earlier than usual, should prove sufficient timing for you not to be late for the first act.
For the duration of the Olympics, trains and tubes are going to be running far later than usual, so that visitors will be able to enjoy themselves far into the night with less worry for missing the last tube.
Theatre for all
For the mix of visitors, all tastes have been catered for, with productions to please everyone. Distribution of The Official London Theatre guide will be on a much greater scale to ensure that everyone who wants to find out what is on at the theatre, and where to their favourite London show tickets, will be able to do so.
For Londoners, an evening at the theatre is the ideal way to relax after a day’s work or during a weekend. This year, as in years past, the West End plays are receiving great acclaim with plenty of popular appeal both for the young and older population, with so much to choose from that you become spoilt for choice.
Walking and Backstage Tours
From June to September, the wonderful Theatreland walking tours are operating giving you an excellent chance to walk and feel the vibe of the theatre and other historical landmarks taken in on this exhilarating walk.
Or, buy your tickets for London theatre backstage tours. Many of the theatres offer you the most interesting and informative experience of learning all that goes on behind the scenes. It will certainly be different outing to those noisy sports events happening down the river.
With so much to do this summer in London, you certainly will never be bored.
