Parks in Paris
So you’ve booked a hotel in Paris? Now it’s time to plan your itinerary! If you’re on a budget and have managed to find a cheap hotel in Paris then you’ll probably be keen to keep the costs down throughout your trip. It’s not only the hotels in Paris that are expensive – a lot of the tourist activities are too. But there are plenty of things to do in Paris that involve little or no cost whatsoever.
One thing you can do in Paris to keep the costs down is visit one (or more) of the many great public parks and open spaces in the city. To begin, stuff yourself full of free breakfast in your hotel or Paris hostel in order to get enough energy for the rest of the day. Enjoy your fresh croissants, baguettes and pain au chocolat, washed down with a good cup of coffee. Then, ask the concierge at your cheap Paris accommodation to get you a map and highlight the parks in the city that are worth seeing.
If your Paris hotel is on the left bank of the Seine in the 5th arrondissement then your closest park is likely to be the fabulous Jardin des Plantes. This great Botanical Garden is, as its name suggests, full of plants as well as some animals in the small zoo. If this is the type of park you can imagine yourself strolling around then there are plenty of low price Parisian hotels nearby.
Another great park (and a very popular one at that) is located near to lots of cheap hotels in Paris. The Jardin du Luxembourg is also on the left bank, near the Sorbonne, and has a lovely Italian layout with a French style. You will be able to leave your Paris hotel in the morning and visit the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Jardin des Plantes before lunch if you have the energy!
In stark contrast to the old world charm of the above parks, those staying in the Paris hotels near the 15th arrondissement (still on the left bank but on the other side of town) should check out the modern splendour of the Park Andre Citroen, near the affluent houses and luxurious Paris hotels of Boulogne. This hotel has bright modern greenhouses, fountains, asymmetric shapes and plenty of open places for the kids to play in. Take them here and tire them out, before taking them back to your low price hotel in Paris for a well deserved rest.
If you are on a romantic break in Paris and have found a gorgeous cheap Paris hotel then perhaps a stroll around some of the most beautiful parks in the city will be a great addition to your break. The Parc des Buttes Chaumont, up on a hill, boasts some gorgeous views and is the perfect place for a picnic.
It’s in the 19th arrondissement, so if you have found an affordable Parisian hotel in the lovely Montmartre area in the 18th, this park is perfect. There is also the Parc Monceau, which is even nearer to Montmartre and has beautiful flower gardens and lakes.
